Bloom Dental
Dental practice management software
- Role
- Lead Product Designer (Freelance)
- Timeline
- December 2017 – March 2018
Highlights
Overview
- Designed for four very different users: practitioners, dental assistants, front-desk staff, and patients, defining personas and user stories for each.
What I designed
- Scoped 12 core features, from patient overview, imaging, and exams to scheduling, billing and insurance, messaging, and analytics, organized into clinical and patient-experience architectures.
- Designed tools to replace manual work, including clinical notes, shareable doctor’s report cards, and appointment reminders, built into the daily workflow instead of handled by hand.
- Designed a patient portal where patients could complete forms, review treatment plans, schedule visits, and contact the office.
How I worked
- Led UX and UI design for Bloom Dental Group, shaping a new practice-management SaaS for dental offices ranging from single clinics to multi-location practices.
- Benchmarked existing practice-management products and found none that combined the functions practices needed with an interface staff could use without workarounds.
- Interviewed stakeholders and dental staff about their daily work, uncovering cluttered screens, poor navigation, and tasks like notes, reports, and appointment reminders still done by hand.
- Tested ideas early with paper sketches alongside stakeholders and dental professionals, then moved to wireframes and functional high-fidelity prototypes before development.
- Delivered a UI kit and style guide covering typography, color, and core components, giving developers a consistent foundation to build from.
